The Opening Ceremony of 13th UNESCO/IOC-ODC Training Course on Ocean Model and Ecosystem Model

On 8 July 2024, the 13th UNESCO/IOC Regional Training and Research Center on Ocean Dynamics and Climate (hereinafter referred to as “ODC Center”) Training Course, themed on Ocean Model and Ecosystem Model, successfully convened in Qingdao.
This training was hosted by First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources (hereinafter referred to as “FIO”) and will last for 2 weeks. In the first week, the ODC training course is jointly organized by UNESCO/IOC-ODC center, the BRICS PARADIGM project and Elsevier. In the second week, the CLIVAR-FIO summer school is jointly organized by UNESCO/IOC-ODC center and WCRP/CLIVAR Project office. Mr. Jun Feng, Director of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Natural Resources, Prof. Fangli Qiao, Director of UNESCO/IOC ODC Center, Deputy Director General of FIO, Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Longmu Xie, Deputy Director of Qingdao West Coast New Area Management Committee, Prof. Mauro Cirano, Center for Mathematical and Natural Sciences (CCMN), Institute of Earth Sciences (IGEO) - Department of Meteorology, Ms. Yan Sun, Managing Director China of Global STM Journals of ELSEVIER, Mr. Vladimir Ryabinin, Former Executive Secretary of UNESCO/IOC, Prof. P. N. Vinayachandran, Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of Indian Institute of Science, as well as Dr. Xunqiang Yin, Deputy Director of UNESCO/IOC-RTRC-ODC Center, First Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was moderated by Ms. Wei Zheng, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Division, First Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources.
UNESCO/IOC-ODC center aims to promote the international cooperation and enhance the research capacity in the WESTPAC region on ocean dynamics, air-sea interactions, climate change and numerical modelling through the provision of international annual training courses and workshops to junior scientists and doctoral/master students mainly from the member states of IOC in the Western Pacific. Since its establishment, ODC Center has carried out and coordinated series of training courses, activities, workshops and international research programmers, which are featured with both foundational and high-level courses/lectures, enough hands-on exercises, comfortable group discussions, and intensive interactions among trainees and experts.
